On Saturday, February 16th, the Coles County SWCD Foundation is hosting a chili supper fundraiser at the American Legion Post 88 in Mattoon. Dinner will be served from 5-7pm, followed by live musical entertainment by the “Sawyer Brothers Band” from 7-9pm. A silent auction, bucket raffles, and gun package raffle will also be held. Tickets for the event and the gun raffle may be purchased in advance from any SWCD director or in person at the SWCD office. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
All proceeds from the evening will benefit the Foundation’s scholarship program, which awards merit-based scholarships to college students from Coles County who are majoring in natural resources, biology, agriculture, and similar conservation-related fields. In the past 5 years, 12 scholarships have been awarded for a total of $7,250.
Fall 2019 scholarship application packets are available for download or may be picked up in person at the office. High school seniors and current college students from Coles County who are enrolled in a conservation-related degree program are encouraged to apply. The application deadline for the Fall ‘19 school year is Monday, March 18th.
